Before you celebrate finding an insane deal online on your favorite MAC lipstick or Urban Decay palette, make sure it’s not just a load of crap.

Literally.

Because a new report claims that a large portion of these products are laced with rat poop and human urine, as well as poisons like cyanide and arsenic.

According the Guardian, police in the UK are warning residents to steer clear of makeup being sold online via social networks like Instagram and Facebook. Many of the products produced in China have been found to contain dangerous chemicals from unsanitary factories, which could lead to severe allergic reactions.

And it’s also just ridiculously disgusting.

A report from London police says:

Laboratory tests have shown counterfeit perfume often contains poisonous chemicals including cyanide and even human urine. While fake cosmetics such as eyeliner, mascara, lipgloss and foundation have been found to contain toxic levels of chemicals and harmful substances such as; arsenic, mercury and lead. All of these can cause allergic reactions, such as skin irritation, swelling, rashes and burns as well as leaving the consumer with longer term health problems.

Police are warning consumers to pay attention to spelling and grammar errors on urls and ads, and to check where the seller is based. If it’s simply a P.O. Box, beware.

But the biggest tip they say is to simply trust your instincts; if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
