Over the weekend, Los Angeles Clippers Blake Griffin was involved in an altercation that led to him breaking a bone in his hand.
The incident occurred between the power forward and the Clippers’ assistant equipment manager, Matias Testi — who also has a personal relationship with the NBA player.
The Clippers were on the road in Toronto for a five-game road trip. The day after the incident, the team played the Raptors and lost 112-94.
According to sources who witnessed the event, Blake and Matias’ altercation began with the two of them exchanging verbal insults. Their exchange then lead to an argument during which Blake first hit Matias. After being hit, Matias left the restaurant, but Blake followed him outside. While outside, Blake then proceeded to hit the assistant equipment manager once more, this time, connecting a hit to his face.
Both Blake and Matias’ road trip was cut short, and the two were sent home following the fight.
Coach Doc Rivers said of the incident, “I’m not satisfied with anything. I’m talking about a non-basketball issue right now. No, I’m not satisfied with anything right now. … For them, we have a responsibility once we decide to play in this league to conduct ourselves in a certain way, and that’s something we talked to them about (Monday). We represent the Clippers, and we have to continue to do that. Everything that happens, obviously, you try to turn into a teaching lesson for your players.”
Blake is expected to be out anywhere between four to six weeks.
