UPDATE: 2/10/16, 3:46 A.M. ET

One-year-old Autumn Jackson was in her crib when two assailants walked up to her home and began shooting in the direction of a converted garage. She was shot in the face.

Autumn’s father emerged holding her, begging for someone to take her to the hospital.

Earlier reports claimed that Autumn was between 3 months old and 9 months old, and that she was in her father’s arms when the shooting occurred.

According to the LA Times, Autumn had just celebrated her first birthday last week.

Original Story

A months old baby girl was gunned down in Compton, California at around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night while being held in her father’s arms outside of a home.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the baby girl–deputies reported that she was 3 months old; friends say the infant is between 6 months old and 9 months old–was shot in the face before two male suspects fled the scene near Holly Avenue and San Marcus Street.

The baby’s mother ran outside upon hearing the shots and passed out from the shock.

Deputies took the baby girl to St. Francis Medical Center in a patrol car, reports the LA Times. She later died at the hospital.

“Clearly the baby is an unintended victim,” said Commander Rod Kusch, head of the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau.

The baby was killed about one block away from Roosevelt Elementary School, which, according to LA Times crime data, is one of the most violent neighborhoods in L.A. County. Investigators are trying to determine if this violent crime was gang-related.

There are several times when what we report isn’t news; it’s just pure evil. This is one of them.

Rest in peace, Baby Girl.
