Dante Pride Is Carrying The Torch For Gospel Rap

Christian hip hop is having a moment, and Dante Pride is right in the middle of it. The Stellar-nominated artist sat down with digital producer JeremiahLikeTheBible for a Morning After interview that went from laughs to real talk. Born in Decatur, Alabama, Pride now calls Atlanta home, where he serves at Change Church.

The conversation opened with the big news: his EP Come As You Are features a collab with Erica Campbell. What makes it sweeter? Pride sat on that record for nearly four years. His wife once did makeup for Campbell, and their friendship grew naturally—until Campbell slid into his DMs and put him on her show. The rest is history.

Pride also looked back at his come-up, when he passed out mixtapes in school bathrooms and got teased for repping gospel rap. Nobody understood it then. They do now.

Here’s the twist: Pride is both a signed artist and a youth pastor. As a preacher’s kid himself, he leads with authenticity. “They don’t care what you’re reading on the paper,” he said. “They want to see if you can make that paper walk.”

That same heart drives Come As You Are. For Pride, the title works two ways—come as you are in how you dress, and come as you are in your heart. God meets you where you’re at, then doesn’t leave you the same.

In his most vulnerable moment, Pride shared that he and his wife have been believing God for children after seven years of marriage. It hasn’t happened yet, but his faith stays strong.

What’s next? A tour, a hometown concert in Huntsville, Alabama. His new EP is out now.
