Anybody who has followed Wiz Khalifa over the last several years knows fitness isn’t some brand new phase for him. The rapper has undergone a pretty serious physical transformation since he began training consistently around 2017, packing muscle onto his once-slender frame while getting heavily involved in weightlifting, kickboxing and mixed martial arts. By 2023, Wiz told Men’s Health that his regular routine included an hour of weight training followed by another hour of MMA. But this summer, he found another way to push himself physically: running.

Wiz publicly revealed his newfound love for running in late July, telling his Instagram followers that he had “started running recently” and was already hooked. While vacationing with his family, he said he ran three miles one day before bumping that distance up to five miles the next. He even went shopping for more running gear and later headed back outside for another run after dark. For somebody just picking up the hobby, Wiz was wasting very little time getting his miles in.

And unlike plenty of celebrities fitness kicks that come and go without much explanation, Wiz has been bringing his followers along for the ride. He started regularly posting himself out on the runs, showing everything from his outfits to the actual work being put in. It didn’t take long for the running world to notice either. Strava offered to help him track his journey, while Nike Running and several other running-related brands popped up in the comments on his early posts.

The transition actually makes plenty of sense when you look at how Wiz Khalifa approaches fitness in general. Years before he started logging miles, he explained that he loved training because there was always another technique to learn or another area where he could improve. That mindset helped him go from roughly 140 pounds to around 170-plus pounds after making strength training a serious part of his lifestyle. Running appears to have tapped into that same competitive side, except now the progress can be measured in miles, pace and how much easier each run starts to feel.

The improvement has been happening pretty quickly, too. By August 12, Wiz Khalifa was already feeling himself a little bit. He uploaded another running post with the very simple caption, “I’m feeling good :).” The comments immediately filled up with runners encouraging him to keep going, with some already joking about marathons being the next stop.

Maybe the most entertaining part of the whole journey has been watching Wiz become a full-fledged running nerd in real time. What began as a few vacation miles quickly turned into new gear, regular runs and constant updates for his followers. The running community has embraced it enough that The Boulder Boys Show, a podcast centered around the sport, recently praised Wiz for making some of the best running content on Instagram and described him as somebody who genuinely seemed excited about discovering the sport.

And now Wiz is starting to look the part too. By mid-August, running-fashion communities were already taking notice of him rocking a full Satisfy running kit, which is a pretty hilarious evolution for somebody who had only announced his new hobby a few weeks earlier. Running isn’t just something Wiz tried once anymore. Judging by how often he’s been posting it, he’s officially added it to the “Kush and Athletics” lifestyle he’s been building for years.

For now, Wiz hasn’t announced that he’s training for a marathon or chasing some major race goal, and that’s probably what makes following the journey so fun. He’s simply found something new that he enjoys, and fans are watching him get better at it one run at a time. Considering how seriously he eventually took weightlifting and martial arts after discovering those passions, it wouldn’t be surprising if these Instagram runs are only the beginning.
