[Updated August 10 @ 1:45 PM] According to TMZ, Lil Tay is, in fact, not dead. In a statement to TMZ from her family, Lil Tay claims that her Instagram account was compromised, and used to spread “jarring information”. Tay’s fake death was posted yesterday (Wednesday, August 9). The shocking statement also claimed that her brother passed away as well. The information surrounding the circumstances of their deaths was, until today, unclear. Now it appears that we know why. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

An official statement was posted on her Instagram stating, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing. We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain. This outcome was entirely unexpected, and has left us all in shock. Her brother’s passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief.
