Atlanta is one of several cities that has been asked whether they are interested in hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The United States Olympic Committee has sent letters to cities that have previously expressed an interest in hosting the games, as well as the cities in the largest 25 U.S. markets. Atlanta hosted the summer Olympic Games in 1996, the last time the summer games were held in the U.S.

The USOC sent a letter to Mayor Kasim Reed on February 19, the AJC reports. It is not yet known if Mayor Reed, the City Council and business leaders plan on launching a full-scale bid. The USOC has more than two years to decide whether to submit a bid for the 2024 Olympic Games, but the organization would like to begin discussions with potential host cities now.
