“Bang! Bang! Shoot that thing, bad baby!” can be heard from Michael Barnes, the 19-year-old father of the little girl in the disturbing video clip above. Thank goodness Barnes and the child’s mother, Toni Wilson, 22 were charged with with neglect, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and allowing a child to possess a firearm.
According to New York Daily News, Evansville cops found the awful video after arresting Barnes for allegedly trying to sell a handgun to an undercover officer. In typical curious baby fashion, the child can be seen turning the gun over in her hands, putting it in her mouth, all while mom and dad encourage her with, “Bang” and “Pow.” Wilson tried to claim to the police that it was a pellet gun, but they confirmed it was a .40 caliber handgun. And even though the magazine had been removed, a round could have still been in the chamber.
We’ll spare you any debates on gun control and just chock this one up to bad parenting a complete lack of compassion and common sense. Even if you wanted to be funny and have your unsuspecting baby play with something that could take them out of the world in a second, keep it to youself. Don’t take a video of it to share online. We’re glad this story resolved with the child’s parents getting charged, but what about those many other parents and caregivers out there behaving the same way who aren’t so lucky and a child loses their life?
