President Obama making his speech

Logo Network’s second annual Trailblazer Honors awards ceremony was filmed last night. During the ceremony, President Obama appeared in a video message and talked about what Logo’s progress means in terms of America’s acceptance of the LGBT community. President Obama even gave a nod to Caitlyn Jenner.

The taped event, which will premiere this Saturday at 8pm, also celebrated the network’s 10th anniversary.

From Gossip Cop:

In his remarks, the President says it’s not just a milestone for the channel, but a sign of “extraordinary progress for our country.”

He continues, “When this network aired its first show, gay marriage was a political wedge issue used to divide us. Today the majority of Americans live in states where they can get married, no matter who they love. Today ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ is history. We passed the hate crime law that bears Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr.’s name. And all you have to do is look at this month’s cover of Vanity Fair to see how America is more accepting of people for who they truly are.”

Obama goes on to note that while there is still “plenty of work to do together,” the evening “is a reminder that when everybody does their part, when every voice is heard, change is not just possible — change is inevitable.” He adds, “So here’s to ten extraordinary years, and all the years to come. Let’s keep standing together to make sure every American is treated with dignity and respect they deserve.”

When Caitlyn Jenner joined Twitter – coincidentally breaking President Obama’s record as the fastest account to reach one million followers – President Obama gave her an RT of approval, adding the message: “It takes courage to share your story.”

Speaking of which, Caitlyn Jenner’s E! docu-series, I Am Cait, premieres on July 26th and now there’s a new promotional video.

In the clip above Caitlyn describes her reasons for agreeing to the series. Caitlyn will appear at the 2015 ESPY Awards on July 15th to accept the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, her first red carpet event since transitioning into her true self.
