ISIS is taking responsibility for the horrific terror attacks that occurred at multiple locations in Paris on Friday. The attacks claimed the lives of at least 127 people and the latest reports state that at least 300 have been hospitalized, with 80 in critical condition.
The extremist group released a statement saying the attacks were planned due to the country’s “insulting” comments towards the prophet Mohammed.
Released in both French and Arabic, the statement translates to: “Let France and those who walk in its path know that they will remain on the top of the list of targets of the Islamic State, and that the smell of death will never leave their noses as long as they lead the convoy of the Crusader campaign, and dare to curse our Prophet, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, and are proud of fighting Islam in France and striking the Muslims in the land of the Caliphate with their planes, which did not help them at all in the streets of Paris and its rotten alleys. This attack is the first of the storm and a warning to those who wish to learn.”
President Francois Hollande also blames ISIS for the attacks, calling it an “act of war.”
In memory of those who were killed across the nation’s capital, the city’s most popular monument – the Eiffel Tower – has been closed indefinitely, officials turning off its lights during this dark time. There is no official death toll, but at this time it is estimated that 140 people have died.
Six different attacks occurred throughout the French city. From The Atlantic:
There were at least six attacks: the Bataclan concert hall; Stade de France (the national stadium), La Carillon bar in the 10th arrondissement, La Petit Cambodge in the 10th arrondissement, La Belle Equipe in the 11th arrondissement, and La Casa Nostra in the 11th arrondissement.
We pray for the city of Paris during this devastating time. Below are 14 photos of the heartbreaking scenery.
