Inconsistent testimony from an incarcerated, former sheriff’s deputy has Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush considering legal action after The Baton Rouge Advocate ran a story with the headline, ‘Defendant in Darren Sharper case links former Saints player Reggie Bush to drink-spiking.’
The Defendant, Brandon Licciardi, was named in a separate trial accusing him of rape and human trafficking and a co-defendant in a district court filing against former New Orleans Saints defensive back Darren Sharper. Bush played with Sharper as a member of the New Orleans Saints during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Bush’s name came into play when Licciardi alleged he saw Bush putting MDMA in champagne and handing the substance to women at a dance venue. According to The Advocate, Licciardi immediately backpedaled and denied seeing Bush in possession of the drug. Despite the inconsistencies in the testimony, The Advocate ran the story, and Bush took umbrage.
‘Not only were Licciardi’s motivations in leveling the charge suspect, to say the least, but Licciardi, as The Advocate acknowledges halfway into the article, contradicted himself in the very same interview with investigators from the District Attorney’s Office,’ Bush wrote in a lengthy Instagram post Saturday. Through his lawyer, Shawn Holley, Bush gave the following, exclusive statement to the The Detroit Free Press:
‘This is outrageous. I can say to you on the record that Reggie adamantly, vehemently and unequivocally denies all of the statements in that article. We are demanding a retraction from The Advocate and Reggie is considering taking legal action.’
Bush has not been named or charged in any of the filings against Licciardi or Sharper. Robert Blythe, an FBI agent testifying in relation to the Sharper case told The Advocate there are no current investigations into Licciardi’s claims.
